Default Confused - Weapons

So... basically, my understandings of weapons is pretty much muck. There's an increasing color from white, blue, purple, gold, to green? Or am I wrong already? The increasing color means more mods on the weapon, which are automatic upgrades your weapon has. You can put on inscriptions and upgrades (such as sword hilts for swords), to buff up your weapon, and customize it as well...

If all that's true, then what about adding elemental upgrades to a fiery dragon sword or icy dragon sword? It wouldn't be fire and... earth could it?

You have pretty much the right idea.

The mods on the weapons also have different levels these also get better as you go up the chain from white to green.

Except Greens cannot be altered at all they are as is weapons and can only be customised to a character.

Gold weapons with perfect ie maximum mods are the real collectables and combined with a popular or rare skin ie look fetch high prices.

If you have a fiery weapon you can make it cold or lightning etc but it wouldnt be both fire and lightning.

You do not get so much more mods as you go up from say purple to gold but some weapons can have an inscription as well as the normal mods others cannot.

So according to many a max damage weapon with max effect mods and inscription combined with a low skill usage is what most players aim for.
What mods depends on the characters skill build and personal pref.

Greens can't be modded. You can't remove the firey or icy hilt from the fds and ids or axe varients(from nightfall). Basically the color is the rarity. Gold bieng worth more. Golds are usually max damage however you get plenty of whites that are max damage.

I don`t think you can change the element suffix on IDS or FDS, but you can do it on all other non-green weapons.

You`re right about weapon rarity. Only weapons with an inscription slot can be inscribed.

Even though all weapons/offhands should be able to take inscriptions...

When you mean modding you mean like adding a sword hilt right...? And the rarest color is green?

Rarest is gold. Green just means it is a boss' weapon

white = common
blue = can be unidentified but still common
purple = less common
gold = rare and usually has max mods on it
green = boss weapon (has the boss' name)

Certain weapons (like the fiery dragon sword) have a permanent damage mod that cannot be replaced (fire dmg) but 90% of the other weapons can.

Only weapons found in nightfall, Eye of the north, hall of heroes chest, and zaishen chest are inscribable.

Think of it this way: There are 4 parts to the weapon.

The 'basic' sword/axe/hammer, which doesn't have any bonuses;

Then you add an inscription, such as '+15% damage while health is above 50%';

Then you add a hilt/haft, such as a Fiery sword hilt (which all Fiery Dragon Swords come with), or sundering axe hafts, etc;

Then you can add a pommel/grip, such as a Sword pommel of fortitude or a hammer grip of defence.

---------------------------

With the whole white/blue/purple/gold/green thing, green weapons are not classified on the scale. They're a completely different thing imo.

White weapons are simply ones without any magical components (pommels, hilt, etc), and will become blue if you add one. Blue weapons are commonly dropped magical weapons, usually with bad mods, but you can change the mods around in the same way you can with purples/golds. Purples are simply uncommon magical weapons, golds are rare magical drops, usually with at least one max mod. There's nothing stopping you from making blue weapons as good as purple/gold ones, it's just that people like to show off with gold weapons and nice skins and stuff.

Greens are ALWAYS max (unless you get them from a starter area), but you can't mod them in any way, or even dye them. You'd assume they're worth alot, but since they drop from only one boss, they're easily farmed so the price drops. Most greens are worthless (only worth a few k).

Rarity of a weapon goes from white to gold, with white being just a plain weapon and gold having the greatest chance of dropping with mods(upgrades) and inherents/inscriptions. Mods aren't automatic, they can either drop with the weapon or you add them yourself(the weapon color doesn't change when you add more mods, either). Mods(like a hilt and pommel for a sword) can be added to all weapons regardless of their color, with the exception of greens and things like the FDS/IDS(and a few others). Inscriptions can only be added to weapons dropped in EoTN and NF(and a few chests) that come with an inscription slot(they take the place of an inherent). That also applies for sheild and other off hand mods.

Greens(Uniques being the proper name) are in their own category. They are dropped with the same skin and stats every time and cannot be modded.

You can also customize any weapon for the +20% damage, other then shields and off hands(those with the destroyer skins can be via HoM, but it doesn't add any bonuses).

Item rarity doesn't affect the number of mods, just their quality. Golds have the best mods, purples and blues have lower quality mods. (In a few cases purples can have max mods.)

Yes, I wasn't clear enough on that point. Mods found on gold drops are more likely to be maxed compared to those found on blues and purples. But in my experience gold drops have a greater chance of dropping with both suffix and prefix mods as well as an inherent/inscription, where as blues and purple tend to be one or two such mods short. Whites do not come with mods. There is also no guarantee that blues, purples and golds drop all the time with any mods.

It's not that they're more likely, it's that golds are the only source of max mods, except for the few low-range exceptions on purples (Energy +5, Armor +5, Received physical damage -2/3).

I think I got the hang of it now.

Weapon "Rarity" is white, blue, purple, and gold. The higher the color the more mods/max mods it has.

Green are unique items which cannot be modded since they already have mods on them. Usually boss items.

There are other colors too like red.

As for upgrades, say for a sword, you can put on sword pummels/sword hilts that are max mods onto a half/none modded item. Green items already have the mods on them.

Generally speaking, yes, but when it comes to purple vs gold, the lines are very blurred. It's not uncommon to get a purple weapon that has crap mods on it but the basic weapon is max damage with a requirement of 9. On the other hand, I've gotten lots of req12/13 gold items that have less than max mods.
Even some blue items can end out to be max damage and low requirements. I have a max damage inscribable blue req9 shield that my warrior uses, for example.

And don't forget - the weapon mods can be removed using an expert or perfect salvage kit (for use on another weapon). And, the mods can (usually) be overwritten - for example, if you have sword with a Pommel "of Enchanting" on it (max or not), you can simply overwrite it with a Pommel "of Fortitude" and the Fortitude will replace the Enchanting.
The exceptions are things like the Fiery Dragon Sword where the "fiery" part is an inherent mod that can't be replaced.

So if you had an IDS or an FDS, you can't change the sword hilt because it has to be fiery?

That is correct

Also you should know about inscriptions and how they can only be used in elona and GW:EN golds...not factions and prohpecies golds (they are inherent)

Just ignore "red" weapons completely. There is a high chance you will never encounter one as they are aquired as pvp rewards for pvp characters only. they cannot be used by pve characters. They are basically pve skins applied to the pvp weapons and are created in the pvp eqipment menu rather than droped, crafted or purchased.

The most important thing to keep in mind is that, because weapons can be modded, even a blue item can be just as good, or even better than a gold.

What matters in a weapon is:
  • Is it max?
  • Is the skin good?
  • If Elonian/EotNian/ZChestian, is it inscribable? If Tyrian/Canthan, does it have a desirable, max inherent mod?
  • What's the attribute req?

That's it. Everything else is a changeable mod.

2 Questions, how does a pvp character get a pvp reward? and How can you inscribe a prophecies/factions weapon?

1. [wiki]Tolkano[/wiki] hands out PvP rewards.
2. You can't. If a weapon doesn't drop with an inscription slot, such as those from Prophecies and Factions, you can't ever add an inscription to it.
